Options for missing teeth

Options for people with one or more missing teeth: There are four options when it comes to missing teeth.  The first is to leave the space.  Some potential complications can arise from this scenario.  The first is that the adjacent and opposing teeth can drift into the space where the tooth used to be.  This can lead to malocclusion or a change in your bite.  Also, you may start chewing more on the opposite side and thereby wearing out the other side.  The second option is a partial denture which is a removable appliance that you need to take out every night and put in every morning.  This is the least expensive tooth replacement; but, it does have it’s limitations because it is removable.  The third option is a dental bridge which stays in place.  This is a good option that is usually covered by insurance.  The main disadvantage of this option is that we would have to shave the two neighboring teeth down about 1mm all the way around in order to make room for the bridge.  Anytime we cut a tooth, we increase the risk of decay and sensitivity on those teeth.  The last option which is usually the best option is dental implants.  Dental implants are a great way to replace missing teeth as they act just like a natural tooth.  They look and feel great and the best thing is that we would not need to damage any neighboring teeth.  If you or someone you know has missing teeth that they would like replaced, please give us a call at 604-278-1907 and we would love to help.
